Welcome back to the
' Better St Austell'
website!
At last St Austell is getting its own town council after a lapse of over 35 years!
Elections take place for the new council on 4th June 2009 the same day as elections for the new unitary authority Cornwall Council as well as European parliament.
St Austell is divided into 5 wards:
Bethel which will have 5 councillors and 8 candidates standing so there will be an election.
Gover which will have 4 councillors and 6 candidates are standing so there will be an election.
Mount Charles will have 5 councillors - but with only 5 candidates nominated there will be no election - SHAME.
Poltair will have 4 councillors and 8 candidates standing so there will be an election.
St Austell Bay (Holmbush) will have 2 councillors and with only 2 candidates nominated there will be no election - SHAME.
We believe that local government should not be dominated by party politics. Just look what the Lib Dem majority on Restormel has done to our town!
So, for councillors to be free of all party politics - free of party pressure - free to make decisions they think people want for our town
